Methodology
Cited selected 200 brands from the Fortune 1000 covering 10 categories (20 brands per category). Categories: enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, CRM + marketing automation, cybersecurity, financial services, health insurance, consumer retail, consumer packaged goods, industrial manufacturing, and telecommunications. Within each category, Cited drew a mix of mega-cap incumbents (e.g., Salesforce, Oracle, Cisco), mid-cap challengers, and late-Fortune 1000 entrants to avoid sampling only the top of each vertical.
For each category, Cited defined 5 standard prompts a prospective buyer would paste into an AI assistant during the research phase. Examples in enterprise software: "What are the best enterprise CRM platforms in 2026?", "Which CRM is best for mid-market B2B?", "Compare Salesforce vs HubSpot vs Microsoft Dynamics," "What CRM has the best AI features?", "Which CRM is easiest to implement?". Each prompt was run once on ChatGPT (GPT-5.3), once on Perplexity (Sonar), and once on Google AI Overviews — a total of 15 answer sets per brand.
A brand was marked "cited" if it appeared in any answer as a named recommendation or reference. "Invisible" means zero citations across all 15 prompts.
